L3650 is overheating both at idle and when working. Temp indicator goes about 7/8 way to red. I replaced the thermostat and fan belt. Radiator fins are clean outside. Inside some (30%) thin white scale. All tubes open. No leaks from water pump, but there seems to be no flow from the engine into the radiator. I boiled the thermostat before installing it and it works fine. Could the pump be bad with no other indications? Or could there be something else about the thermostat I don’t know? No immediate indication of head gasket leaks or cracks- no bubbles in coolant, no excess smoke when under load. I’ve owned this 15 yr tractor about 6 months. Thanks, Hal

I'd check the water temp with a different temp gauge. ....

Thanks. I guess the next troubleshoot step would be to get new sender. The only way I know to check the coolant temp is at the sender or in the top of the radiator having allowed it to warm up with the cap off.

Hal, don't know what your tool box has but they make a tester like a meat thermometer which is the cheapest tool to check it with or a laser pointer that tell temps but will ruin a hundred dollar bill. I'd not look for more parts as it more then likely would be the sender. IT only seems to be the gauge as if it isn't boiling over then it must be a faulty sender. ....

Check the sender, also check the temp of the lower radiator hose compaired to the top, if they are very close the water pump impeller could have come lose not curilating the coolant.

Water pump impeller loose? Cheeze...who would have thought..I'll check it out later this week.
Used the FEL for about 3 hours moving and spreading mulch on Sunday. Temp gage went high but below redline and stayed there. So I kept at it.
Thanks for the ideas. ....

AirDriver,
How do you know all tubes in the radiator are clear? I only know of two methods to know, take off the top or use a temp sensor for uniform temp across the radiator. If there is another method I really would like to know.
My brother had a tractor we went a lot of the routes you are going and it turned out to be the radiator. You could pull the lower hose off and it ran out very quickly. Just the core was clogged! It was a Massey of about same age as your Kubota. By the way, the best coolant system cleaner we could buy did not help. ....

Tubes clear? I am really guessing based on looking at the tubes I can see at the top of the radiator with the cap off, looking at the condition of the coolant removed, and noting the lack of any significant build-up of debris in either. Although the drained coolant was not clean looking, neither was is it deep, dark, murky and subsequent flushings yielded nothing unusual. Could be wrong! Thanks for the idea. One step at a time.... ....
